User's Group Meeting - Media: Auto Module

This month we're joined by Susanne Coates from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (AGNR), author of the Media: Auto module.

Media: Auto is an add-on module by Susanne Coates for Drupal 7. It utilizes the Drupal Media module framework and extends it by adding automated aggregation, node creation and media embedding from YouTube and Vimeo media collections. Media Auto automatically creates nodes for individual media, page views for video collections, and blocks for “Featured Content,” “What’s New”, and “Recent Collections.” Video collection pages organize the created nodes into a “video wall” by collection (album, playlist, channel, etc). The module provides an automatic mechanism for updating the nodes and views if changes or deletions are made on the third party platform. The module is expected to be available on Drupal.org early this year.

Susanne’s talk will cover what the module does and how to use it, and will touch on several development issues, specifically: code and database planning using the Unified Modeling Language (UML), third party ReST interfaces, Drupal 7 module development using object oriented PHP, and portability to Drupal 8.
